
Ingredients
800g beef chuck
1 onion, roughly chopped
5 garlic cloves, minced
2 tomatoes, chopped
60g tomato paste
60ml soy sauce
30ml lemon juice
15ml fish sauce
2 bay leaves
8 peppercorns
30ml cooking oil
500ml water or beef broth
2 potatoes, cubed (optional)
Steps
1. Marinate the beef Mix beef with soy sauce and lemon juice. Wait 30 minutes. Take the beef out and pat it dry. Keep the liquid.
2. Brown the beef Heat oil in a pan on high heat. Cook the beef until brown on all sides. Take it out and set aside.
3. Cook onion and garlic In the same pan, cook onion and garlic for 3 minutes until soft.
4. Add tomatoes Add tomatoes and tomato paste. Cook for 5 minutes. Stir until thick.
5. Put it all together Add the beef back. Pour in the liquid you kept, fish sauce, bay leaves, peppercorns, and broth.
6. Simmer Bring to a boil. Turn heat to low. Put the lid on. Cook for 1.5 to 2 hours until the beef is very soft.
7. Add potatoes Add potatoes in the last 20 minutes. (Skip this step if you don't use them.)
8. Taste and serve Taste the sauce. Add salt if needed. Serve with rice.
